Zippoli: Authentic Italian Pastry

Written by The Kitchen Hand on . Posted in food

Italian deep fried dough is one of the most delightful dessert items that you can enjoy on the menu at an Italian eatery. Often called zippoli, this is a tasty dish that can be served in several different ways, and I have found that it is the perfect finisher most Italian meals. That being said, I decided to try my hand at the Italian dessert to see if I could get the same flavor at home.

Best Wood For Smoking Brisket: How and What Type of Wood to Choose

A good brisket always has that smoked aroma that permeates deep inside the meat. Every bite is infused with flavor, and the meat is so soft and tender, with a very pleasing texture that makes you want to eat more and more.

But it’s also important to note that brisket is a very tough cut of meat. After all, it’s from the pectorals of a cow- which are the main muscles that a cow uses to support its body. This makes brisket very hard to grill or smoke properly if you don’t know what you’re doing. You need to marinate and cook it as slowly as possible to break down the collagen in the meat, while ensuring that the meat doesn’t dry out from the long cooking times.

You cut out all the additives and preservatives and basically have control over what cuts and kinds of meat you use. Making all of this at home is a cake walk if you have a good quality meat grinder.

When it’s time to add a blender to your kitchen, choosing between the NutriBullet or Magic Bullet can be tough. The Magic Bullet company makes two very similar blenders that don’t appear to have big functional differences to the casual observer. Despite their topical similarities, however, these two machines are NOT created equal.

MORTADELLA: All About this Meat, Balogna’s Italian Ancestor

Written by The Kitchen Hand on . Posted in food

The Italians are the masters of preserving pork. Their savory sausages run the gamut from prosciutto to mortadella meat. While you can find imitations of mortadella all around the world, including the American bologna and the Russian doctor’s sausage,
I personally think that when it comes to mortadella, the Italians do it best. Sometimes misspelled as mortadello or mortadela, this simple cold cut has quickly become a staple in my sandwiches.

Last Updated Jan 2020 – I’ll be honest with you: you won’t easily find a more enthusiastic Trekkie – I’ve seen even the bad movies hundreds of times, and I’ve watched just about every episode of the series to date. I even love the new series Star Trek: Discovery, and as time goes by, as a person that’s very interested in cooking, I’ve tried to emulate some of the more otherworldly dishes that have been featured on the various Star Trek shows.
