While Lagostina might not be as well known as All-Clad, Calphalon, or Cuisinart, it’s been a manufacturer of metal cookware since 1901. Founded in Italy, the brand initially focused on flatware before becoming a top producer of pressure cookers for many years.
Recently (since about 2005), it’s been trying to claw its way back to the top of the luxury cookware market. As of today, it offers a number of fairly unique high-end products that make it a top choice for certain kinds of cookware. When it comes to more normal, stainless steel pieces, it’s able to compete with most top brands.
It’s worth noting that Lagostina is owned by the same French parent company that owns both All-Clad and T-fal. It’s very likely that this means that Lagostina and All-Clad exchange notes about producing quality pots and pans. I can’t be sure of this, of course, but it would make sense for Groupe SEB to encourage its brands to work together to create the very best products. This means that you may be able to buy literal All-Clad quality for less by picking up Lagostina pots and pans.
Like All-Clad, Lagostina offers a pretty impressive array of cookware sets. You can get three-ply stainless steel, copper, and hard anodized aluminum sets. They offer a variety of cooking surfaces, including PTFE (Teflon-style) and ceramic non-stick and durable stainless steel. This means that you can find a Lagostina set to suit your needs, whatever they are.

✔ Lagostina Martellata Hammered Copper Cookware Set
Copper is an incredible metal when it comes to cookware. It heats up very, very quickly and evenly. This makes it a great choice for pots and pans, since it’ll help you control your temperature more precisely.
On the other hand, it’s pretty heavy and expensive. Lagostina offsets these disadvantages by combining copper with a core of aluminum and a stainless steel cooking surface in this cookware set. As a result, you get some pretty impressive thermal conductivity in a cookware set that’s light and very affordable.
Unlike other cookware sets that utilize copper, this set features beautifully hammered copper exteriors. The resulting aesthetic is very unique. It’ll require some care to keep the copper shiny (you’ll have to use a special copper cleaner on it every once in a while) but it’s totally worth it. You won’t get copper’s beautiful reddish luster any other way.
This set isn’t non-stick at all, which is great. Since it’s a high-quality cookware set that’s made from expensive materials, it’s a bit pricier than discount hard-anodized options. Without non-stick, it’ll last for many, many years. In fact, it’s made entirely from very durable metals and carefully designed to withstand the rigors of kitchen use. There’s no glass lids to break, Teflon to scratch off, or Thermolon to wear down.
With proper care, you could easily hand this cookware set down to your children or grandchildren.
A full lifetime warranty will help with any accidental mishaps that may occur down the line.
On the other hand, of course, it’s a bit trickier to cook sticky foods in these pots and pans. Copper does give you excellent heat control, however, so it’ll be a bit easier to keep your eggs and chicken (or any sticky food) in the right temperature range to prevent sticking. The stainless steel cooking surfaces will make cleaning off any mess that does occur fairly painless.
This cookware set has stainless handles and well-fitting metal lids. You may find that you need to use a potholder or towel when you simmer things for a while. Otherwise, however, it’s pretty much perfect for any kitchen.
✔ Lagostina Q555SD Axia Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Cookware Set
This high-end tri-ply cookware line is pretty similar in functionality to an All-Clad set, if not design. The pots and pans have a different shape than All-Clad pieces, so you can definitely tell them apart. On the other hand, they’re made with similar materials and construction techniques and even share the same parent company. If you want to get an All-Clad style cookware set without spending quite as much, this Lagostina set is a great choice.
Before we get too deep into things, it’s worth mentioning that Lagostina makes a couple of variants of this set. It comes with both stainless steel cooking surfaces and ceramic nonstick cooking surfaces. I’ll review the stainless steel here, but if you’d like high-quality cookware set with ceramic non-stick interiors, you can always choose the other set.
Like the set above, the Axia line comes with metal handles and lids and a lifetime warranty. As long as you choose the non-non-stick version (the stainless version), you’ll be able to use it practically forever. It’s dishwasher safe, oven safe to 500 degrees, and gets along totally fine with metal utensils. With a bit of care you can very easily look forward to using this cookware set for a very long time.
As I said earlier, this cookware set uses the same multi-ply construction that made All-Clad famous. It has an aluminum core sandwiched between a magnetic stainless exterior (for induction compatibility) and an 18/10 stainless cooking surface (for superior corrosion resistance). This gives each pot and pan maximum durability while still delivering the great thermal performance of aluminum. In other words, your pots and pans will last a long time, be easy to clean, and be light and heat up very quickly and evenly.
The only real downside to this cookware set is the fact that you’ll have to use a bit of care to prevent food from sticking, and you can sidestep that by simply picking up the ceramic non-stick version. It’s a great way to get incredibly high-quality metal cookware without breaking the bank.
Lagostina Pots and Pans Reviews
✔ Lagostina Martellata Stainless Stock Pot, 5-Quart
This roomy 5-quart stockpot is available with both hammered stainless and hammered copper sides. Both versions feature a stainless steel interior and an aluminum core for excellent heat distribution.
As you might expect, these pots are very high quality and come with a lifetime warranty. While the metal lid is opaque (you can’t see through it) and the handles will get hot when you simmer things in this stockpot, they’re also oven safe to 500 F and will last a very, very long time.
This might be the last stockpot that you ever buy.
I think that this heavy-duty stockpot is a great way to accent your existing cookware collection. While it matches the Martellata set above (especially if you choose the copper option for both), it’s also a great piece on its own. The hammered exterior gives it a handmade look without seeming excessively rustic, and it’s still dishwasher safe and terrifically easy to clean.
✔ Lagostina Martellata Tri-Ply Hammered Copper Skillet
Like the stockpot and the complete Martellata set above, this frying pan is available with both stainless steel and copper sides. In either case, the exterior features a hand-hammered aesthetic that will help set it apart from other cookware and make your kitchen a little bit more beautiful.
If you’re going to buy a single pan, you’re probably looking for either a non-stick egg pan or a large multi-purpose pan. This is the latter. It’s a 12-inch (or 8-inch) frying pan with a stainless steel cooking surface and a metal lid. It’s perfect for stir-fries, sautees, or simmering moderate amounts of liquid. This means you’ll have no problem making pan sauces in this dish. The fact that it’s not non-stick helps a little bit too since it’ll be far easier to get fond.
All of the Lagostina pieces on this page are dishwasher safe, oven safe to 500 F, and come with generous lifetime warranties. This pan is no exception. Again, the metal handle and lid mean that it’ll last more-or-less forever with proper care.
If you get the copper version of this pan (and you should), you’ll need to use a special copper cleaner on the exterior in order to keep it shiny. You won’t need to do this too often, however, and the marginal advantage copper gives in terms of heat distribution will more than outweigh this small downside. It’s also extra good looking, of course, especially with the hand-hammered look that the Martellata line has going on.
This pan is NOT non-stick (you can pick up non-stick Lagostina pans, but not with the hammered exterior as far as I can tell). While this makes it great for pan sauces, it’s probably not your best choice if you want a primary egg pan. Pick up a non-stick pan from a brand like NuWave, Tramontina, or All-Clad.
Whether you want an extra pan for your full line of Lagostina cookware or you just want an all-purpose pan for your kitchen, this Lagostina pan is a great choice. You’ll get a cookware piece that’s terrifically functional while being a work of art.
An Inexpensive Luxury Cookware Line
Lagostina has done a very good job of presenting incredibly high-quality cookware pieces with excellent durability and great aesthetics. Best of all, their cookware lines are quite a bit less expensive than some other top brands.
If you want metal cookware that you can pass on to your children (or grandchildren), these Lagostina sets, pots, and pans are an excellent choice.
