I am a family man, and I understand why it’s important to have some great cookware that can really take a beating. Plus, safety is my number one concern when it comes to my family. These great pots and pan sets are made with materials that make it safe and easy to use.

If you take great care of these Calphalon stainless steel cookware pieces, you will be handing them down to your kids one day. But just what makes these pieces so great?

Well, stick with me and you will soon find out. If you have never used this sort of cookware before, get ready for a professional kitchen experience like no other.

Why Calphalon Tri-Ply?

I am a metalworker and I know good craftsmanship when I see it. This type of cookware was precision-crafted for the best performance you could ask for. I liked the design that includes flared rims that makes it very easy to pour and move things from pan to pan or pan to bowl/plate.

The aluminum inner core of these particular pots and pans give you top-notch heat conductivity. You don’t have to use as much power when you are cooking with them — the technology will distribute the heat right where you want it.

Anodized aluminum is non-reactive. Depending upon how you clean your cookware set, the anodized layer on your Calphalon will wear away in about 10-20 years. Therefore, it can become reactive over time. One tip I have is to always wash your cookware using non-oxidizing cleansers and always wash by hand if at all possible. Most automatic dishwasher detergents are oxidizing and therefore not a great choice.

So which ones are the best? Let’s get into the reviews and find out!

✔️ Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 13-Piece Cookware Set

Here is a great set if you have a family like mine. You get 13 great pieces that you can use for any food you wish to prepare.

The aluminum core that is sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel gives you the heating you need to brown meats, and of course control the process of cooking much better. It is non-porous and therefore can be used with all utensils.

We use silicone just to be safe.

I liked the clear tempered lids that are included as well. You can see just what you are cooking with these lids, and there’s no need to open them up and let out the flavors.

The pots and pans are oven safe so you can keep the food warm even if a guest is not present at the time you all eat. It was great for my daughter who worked late and needed to eat her Sloppy Joe after everybody else had long since put their plate in the sink.

Our test meal was, as you may have guessed, Sloppy Joe. I homemade my own sauce using the 2.5qt sauce pan with ease and was able to let it simmer and gain flavor with no trouble. Using the 12-inch omelet pan to brown up the ground beef for everyone was easy, too. The meat was cooked evenly and tenderly and was nice and brown the whole way through.

Cooking the meat and sauce was a safe experience as the stainless-steel handles stayed nice and cool on the stovetop. I’d highly recommend this particular set if you have a big family or just really love to cook.

Pros

  • Dishwasher-safe to make cleanup easier (although hand-washing is best)
  • Works with induction top stoves
  • Lightweight and easy to use if you cannot lift heavier metals (cast iron skillets, etc.)

Cons

  • Cannot use on high heat; may warp easily.
  • Some users reported scratches after using metal utensils on the cookware.
  • One user reported that the cookware stained rather easily.

✔️ Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 8-Piece Cookware Set

This is a nice little starter set for somebody who might just be starting out, or perhaps wants to get into cooking. When we unboxed our set for testing, we were pleasantly surprised by how lovely the cookware looked. It combines utility and strength with an elegant look and feel.

Once again, the pots and pans were made with two layers of stainless steel that encases heavy-gauge aluminum core stainless steel for even and fast heating. Like the others, you need not use high heat to get things cooked up nicely.

The metal conducts heat like a dream.

The pots and pans are oven safe up to 450 degrees F. This is really good and an indicator of the durability that Calphalon offers its consumers.

Our test meal in this particular set was bean soup. I placed the bowl of mixed beans into the stock pot with water, bouillon cubes and some chopped up veggies, peppers and onions to be specific. The soup sat and simmered for a while, and the process was sped up by the fact that I had the clear lid on top and could keep an eye on everything.

Eventually, after hours of cooking, the family ate and enjoyed their meal. The beans were soft and easy to chew, and the spices were just right. Granted, I had soaked the beans before, but they were just fine texture-wise.

All in all, this is yet another great pan set that is durable, practical and will serve you well.

Pros

Cons

  • Will warp easily if you use it on high heat settings
  • One user reported the lids making a popping sound while they cooled down.
  • Another user reported pitting, or small gray spots, after a few uses.

✔️ Calphalon 10 Piece Tri-Ply Cookware Set, Medium, Stainless Steel

Here is a tri ply cookware set that is just as great as the other sets. Granted, you get two more fabulous pieces in this particular set, so that’s a definite “pro” for this particular purchase.

Now, this set is made with the same great material as the other stainless steel pans that we have reviewed, so I will sum it up: you get the same 2 layers of stainless steel  for great heating, great clear lids for easy cooking, and of course a lifetime warranty on your investment.

For our test meal we decided to make some good old omelets using the omelet pan. In the smaller of the two, I sautéed up some veggies and even threw in some ham chunks from our Easter ham leftovers. The smell filled the house and I seasoned it with a little salt and pepper.

Next, I poured the eggs into the larger skilled and added in our fillings and also the cheese. It browned up nicely and the cheese melted beautifully. I served everybody their omelet and we enjoyed it with some bowls of fresh fruit on the side. It was a delicious and tasty meal that we added only hot sauce to as a means of complementing the taste.

Indeed, it was easy to make this great meal and everybody enjoyed it. I also took that evening as a chance to clean up my Calphalon pots and pans using Bar Keeper’s friend, which is a great way to polish up the pots and pans after they’ve been used.

It helps keep the silver shine on your cookware long after you’ve been using it for a while. You can get that cleaner just about anywhere, at any major online retailer or even your local store.

Pros

  • Made of stainless steel, which is ideal for browning, searing and sautéing
  • Lightweight and easy to maneuver around; omelets slid right off the pan
  • Dishwasher- and oven-safe (but hand-washing is always best).

Cons

  • Washing these pans with Bar Keeper’s friend is an extra step, albeit necessary.
  • Using too high of heat can cause your pan to warp.
  • These pans are not naturally non-stick, so you must make sure that you have cooking spray on hand.

Summary

The benefits of using tri-ply cookware are numerous, and we hope you have been able to use our Calphalon tri-ply stainless steel reviews to your advantage.

After all, you have much to look forward to when you use it: anodized tri-ply cookware provides nice and even cooking with few hotspots, you can use less energy by using these pots, and you can enjoy the durability of these long-lasting pots.

  1. Ideally, we wanted sets of fully clad tri-ply stainless steel, which has an aluminum core sandwiched between layers of stainless steel extending up the sides of the pan. Fully clad tri-ply stainless steel is the best option for both pros and home cooks because of its even heat distribution (aluminum heats up quickly and distributes heat well; steel is very durable and holds heat nicely). It’s also very durable and dishwasher safe. Unlike aluminum, stainless steel is nonreactive to acidic ingredients like tomatoes or vinegar, so it won’t leave behind a metallic taste. And unlike nonstick cookware, you can use stainless steel pans over high heat and move them directly from the stovetop to the oven. Bottom line: Good-quality stainless steel pans are buy-it-for-life items.
