If you have ever been to a Sheetz, you have probably tried the Boom Boom Sauce. Even if you haven’t been to one, you have probably heard the lore of the Boom Boom Sauce. This is a condiment that you can get on the MTO (Made To Order) menu.

It is traditionally served with some of the fried foods and on a few different sandwiches. Needless to say, it is quite tasty. It has developed a cult following of people that adore it- but there is one problem: Sheetz isn’t a worldwide, or even a nationwide, thing. If you move away from a Sheetz, you may be craving the tangy sauce- and you are in luck.

We were able to break down the Sheetz Boom Boom sauce recipe and create something that you can make in your own kitchen.

What Is Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce?

Boom Boom Sauce is a famous sauce found only at Sheetz gas stations and convenience stores. Originally sold only with the deep fried pickles, it has quickly been added to many other MTO recipes, including fries, sandwiches, and pretty much anything you want- you get the chance to add it on whenever you order anything.

It is a mayonnaise-based sauce that has just the right amount of sweet, salty, and spicy to keep people addicted.

While there are many sauces that taste similar, you can only get Boom Boom Sauce at Sheetz. Sheetz is an Altoona, PA based convenience store. Over the last 60 years, Sheetz has spread to multiple states. They’ve gone from a place to get gas and coffee into a restaurant, beer garden, and more. They have over 100 locations, most of them in Pennsylvania.

People who live in Northern PA tend to be Sheetz people. The restaurant has a low-grade feud with rival convenience store Wawa- and in arguments about which one is better, Boom Boom Sauce is often a considering factor.

What Does Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce Taste Like?

No two people who explain Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce the same way. It is sweet but salty, savory but spicy. It has a garlicky flavor but isn’t too overwhelming. It melds well with many other flavors and it doesn’t tend to overwhelm them.

Boom Boom sauce tastes like magic, no kidding. It is super addictive.

Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce Recipe

Making your own Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce is easy and can be done in just a few minutes. You won’t even make all that many dishes- you simply have to mix everything in one bowl and keep whisking. If you have a crowd coming, you can easily double or triple the recipe to meet your needs. You don’t need to change any of the levels. In general, you want to give this sauce a bit of time to “set” before you serve it. Make it the same day that you want it, but give it 2-3 hours to settle.

  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Chilli Sauce
  • 2 tsp Sriracha Sauce (or any hot sauce of your choice)
  • 1 tsp Yellow Mustard
  • 25 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 5 tsp Onion Powder
  • Salt & Pepper

1 – Add all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix well – use a hand whisk if possible.

2 – Transfer the sauce into a glass container and refrigerate for up to a week. If it starts to separate, you can whisk it back together. Other than that, it really is that easy!

3 – When you make your own Boom Boom Sauce, try to only make as much as you will need. While you can store it, it doesn’t store all that well. It is really better fresh and slightly cooled.

How Can I Enjoy Boom Boom Sauce?

Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce Ingredients

If you break down the ingredients of Boom Boom Sauce, you will notice that they aren’t uncommon. In fact, most people have them all in their homes. To make your own, you will need a hot sauce of your choice, mayonnaise, mustard, tomato ketchup, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.  It is really important to get the measurements precise because even just a little bit too much of an ingredient can disrupt the taste.

One good thing to note is that you can sub out the regular mayonnaise with vegan mayonnaise at a 1:1 ratio and still get a great taste.

Some people also add pickle juice to their recipe, but that isn’t necessary.

Making Boom Boom Sauce at home is a great idea if you are trying to eat healthier. While this recipe tastes just like the sauce you love, what you get at your local Sheetz location likely has a ton of preservatives.

Boom Boom Sauce isn’t just a condiment that you can eat once and forget. For so many people, it is a way of life. You will start to think about Boom Boom Sauce from the moment you wake up until the time you go to sleep. You will use it at the holidays. If you move away from your local Sheetz or you just want to save some money (and calories) by making your own foods at home, use this recipe to curb your cravings.
