The tools you use in the kitchen are just that: tools. While I’m certainly guilty of playing up the effect of a nice knife or frying pan from time to time, it’s not too much different from what happens when you purchase a nice hammer or vacuum cleaner. Your chores will become more fun for a time while you learn the quirks of your new device. After that brief honeymoon period, however, you’ll go back to hammering or vacuuming with your usual old attitude.
Having quality tools in the kitchen really, really helps. I cannot overstate this. You can cook on a beaten down pan that’s been handed down in your family for generations if you want. It’s much easier, however, to cook on something that’s new, well cared for, and designed for the task you’re using it for.
Ceramic non-stick coatings have revolutionized the cookware industry. It’s now possible to make pans totally nonstick without the host of laboratory-created chemicals involved in Teflon. This means no PTFE or PFOA. More importantly, however, modern ceramic coatings have some pretty remarkable advantages in the kitchen.
